British Gin to Mexico: A new frontier for British gin

In 2021 and into 2022, we completed an intensive, targeted campaign in Mexico to promote one of the UK's strongest luxury exports: gin and premium spirits. Working with the Wine & Spirit Trade Association, our press and PR capitalised on the growing trade relationship between Britain and Mexico following a new trade deal between the two nations. This was an exemplary piece of work which and demonstrated our ability to assist British clients with media, awareness and profile in new markets at home and abroad.

During a three-month period, the deFossard team secured valuable coverage in both specialist media and mainstream titles, from a featured article in Forbes’ Robb Report Mexico to industry targeted publications such as Retailers Magazine, one of the few outlets that focuses exclusively on Mexico’s grocery retail sector. The centrepiece of the campaign took place in Mexico City’s high-end Gin Gin bar, where journalists were invited to sample innovative gin cocktails. This event was followed by an exclusive interview with Joanne Moore, Master Distiller of Quintessential Brands – the home of world-renowned gins, such as Greenall’s, Opihr, Thomas Dakin and Bloom – for leading consumer-focused magazine Food & Wine en Español.

It has been great working on this gin campaign with De Fossard Communications. Our goal was to expand our reach in Mexico with a mix of stories targeting trade and mainstream publications. De Fossard delivered several published pieces in both, providing excellent translation service and great outreach on our behalf.

Agritech and innovation: the future of food in the UK

de Fossard Communications has established a dedicated agritech practice, following years working in the farming, horticulture, and fresh produce sector.

Agritech is a booming, innovative sector in the UK, and de Fossard Communications is bringing its expertise and know-how in farming, fresh produce, politics and communications to the area.

With a new, pro-innovation policy for agritech on the horizon in the UK, British businesses have the opportunity to grow a world-leading sector for agricultural and food innovation.

This will be a boon for British farmers, British consumers, and British science all at once.

With our international experience, insight into how new government policy will be implemented and record of success with targeted campaigns in agriculture and fresh produce, de Fossard Communications is well-positioned to ensure any business ready and willing to take advantage of the new opportunities provided by the British government’s Genetic Technology Bill will be able to receive the coverage, awareness, and support they require to thrive in the UK.

The proportionate and science-based regulatory system for precision-bred plants and animals included in the bill will unlock opportunities to develop crops that are more resilient against disease and the effects of climate change such as drought and flooding, and less reliant on pesticides.

We are already seeing how new genetic technologies can increase yields, make our food more nutritious and result in crops that are more resistant to disease and weather extremes.

British scientists are leading the world in precision breeding and this Bill will put Britain at the forefront of agri-research and innovation – opening the door for more investment and continuing our work to provide farmers with the tools they need to innovate and use new, smart technologies.
— UK Farming Minister, Mark Spencer

The new and innovative products which can be developed include, but are not limited to, climate resilient wheat, non-browning bananas, and disease-resistant chickens.

With global supply chains still under strain and energy prices high around the world, all efforts by governments to increase the supply of food and make agriculture more efficient and productive are welcome. This will ease inflation, cut the cost of food and ultimately save lives around the world.

It also poses a fantastic opportunity for agritech startups, researchers and academics, and farmers to invest in the United Kingdom, taking advantage of the new regulatory opportunities being developed there.

Gene editing might be a great way of harvesting cheaper and more productive food, but it can also attract controversy and critical attention through misconceptions or motivated attacks.

Gene-editing technology will rapidly increase the productivity of wheat, helping to cut the cost of food across the whole world.
